Association
The Finnish Maritime Law Association CMI is an association for individuals working in the field of maritime law, as well as for those otherwise interested in Finnish maritime law. The Association is a member of the Comité Maritime International (CMI). CMI is a private international organization whose members consist of national maritime law associations, and whose objective is to promote the development and harmonization of international maritime law.
A key part of the Association’s activities is to advance expertise in maritime and transport law and to share knowledge with both its members and all interested parties through seminars and training events organized by the Association.
The statutes of the Finnish Maritime Law Association explicitly state that the purpose of the Association is to promote international uniformity in the field of maritime law. The Association seeks to achieve this purpose through cooperation with other national maritime law associations as well as with its “parent organization,” the CMI.
In practice, a significant portion of the Association’s work consists of preparing and issuing statements on maritime law matters to various authorities and organizations (in particular to its “parent organization,” the CMI), as well as to other corresponding bodies. In addition, the Association engages in publishing activities, organizes training events and seminars, and carries out other similar activities. The Association regularly holds member meetings where current issues related to maritime law are discussed.
Members of the Finnish Maritime Law Association become part of the Finnish maritime law community: in addition to member meetings, members are regularly informed about other activities related to maritime law, as well as important news and events that impact maritime and transport law in Finland.
